Hey,

Great episode! You guys have great chemistry. Justin has a nice wit while Rachael has a great voice. The song of the ‘week’ or what not was excellent” kind of like a Hawaiian Nick Cave! Very cool!

Hello from the Beebusters office! I happened to be checking out what comes up if you google our name this morning and it led me here.

The reason your swarm didn’t transfer is because the bees stay where the queen is. There are two ways to move them into a box (a) sift through the bees by hand and pick out the queen, gently pick her up and place her in the new box; or (b) dump the whole swarm onto the new box! This latter method seems kind of rough but it works surprisingly well!

A lot of people assume we’re some sort of bee haters because of what we do, but that’s really not the case. The founder, David Marder, was a beekeeper before he founded the company. He just got so many calls for bee removal he ended up doing it full time! He/we still keep bees, and several of us are also very involved with the Orange County Beekeepers Assn. I personally am a full time beekeeper working for Dave/Beebusters.

Also it sounds like you drove through a moving migratory swarm. It wouldn’t have been hanging out in the middle of the street — they move at about the pace of a stiff walk until they land somewhere.

If you ever want to talk bees (even / including if you’re standing in front of a hive and want to ask how to make them go in) or want to visit a bee yard, give us a call at — okay this thing keeps discarding my comment as spam, maybe the phone number is making it think its spam? so comment back I guess )=
